Around the world, regional cultures are disappearing as globalization, environmental destruction, and climate change tear at the threads of local identities. "GAUCHO GAUCHO," which premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival and explores the story of a community of Gauchos in Northwestern Argentina struggling to maintain their traditions amidst external pressures, has sparked the creation of THE GAUCHO GAUCHO IMPACT PROGRAM.
This program aims to support these individuals and foster the continuation of the Gaucho culture through targeted community-based impact work, addressing issues like insufficient housing and the adverse effects of climate change on their agricultural systems.
To enhance the resilience of the Gaucho community, we are implementing initiatives such as well drilling, modernizing irrigation systems, and capacity-building on regenerative agriculture. These efforts aim to secure water for animals and crops, achieve higher yields, and create a revenue-generating model through sustainable agricultural practices.
A pilot project on the Choque family land, featured in the documentary, is scheduled for completion by Q2 2024, with plans to expand to other farms by Q3 2024. The second phase will focus on improving water access and agricultural production for small-scale farmers in the San Carlos region, promoting economic and environmental sustainability.
Key partners like Agua Segura and INTA contribute expertise in water management and technological innovation to support these efforts.
